This is how we see reactions to a video — second by second

Gaze, brain, skin, heart and facial expressions are recorded in sync. Example: the “Svezhest” video — in the “Price” scene skin response rises and frowning appears; in the “Call to action” scene audience attention drops.

Why neuro research

People say one thing but react differently. A survey asks for an opinion after viewing. We record the reaction during viewing — second by second — and verify it with money and memory.

< 0.5 s

Reaction comes before words

The brain decides “keep watching or scroll past” in a fraction of a second. A minute later the person will explain it differently.

scene by scene

See exactly which scene

A survey gives one score for the whole video. EEG shows where attention rose and where it fell: on the logo, the price, the call to action.

no moderator

No “convenient” answers

In focus groups people adjust to the moderator and each other. Brain, skin and heart signals can’t be adjusted.

≥ 3 signals

Conclusions from multiple signals

We confirm attention with brain, gaze and heart rate, and emotion with skin, pupil and facial expressions.

What we measure with

Brain, gaze, body and purchase decision — in one session

Each tool answers its own question. Together they show what people felt, what they’ll buy and what they’ll remember.

Brain and gaze

EEG

32 channels, 10–20 system

Attention, engagement, memory and cognitive load for every second — before a person has time to think.

Which scenes hold attention and which lose it.
Brain and gaze

Eye tracker

gaze, time to first fixation

Where people look in a frame, on packaging and on the shelf.

Whether the logo and price were noticed, and after how many seconds.
Brain and gaze

Pupil

corrected for frame brightness

Dilates with arousal and mental effort.

How strongly a scene engages or how much effort it requires.
Body and face

Skin response

GSR, finger sensor

The most direct measure of emotional intensity: skin reacts within 1–3 s.

Which scene has the strongest impact.
Body and face

Heart rate

ECG or pulse wave

Slowing after an event means attention is captured; speeding up means tension.

Which shot grabs attention.
Body and face

Facial expressions

facial EMG: smiling and frowning

Muscle micro-movements people don’t notice themselves.

Whether a scene is liked, not just whether it “hits.”
Body and face

Breathing

breathing belt

Cleans skin response and heart rate of spikes caused by breathing itself.

More accurate emotional intensity scores.
Behavior and money

Real purchase

BDM method: willingness to pay

The participant names a price, then a price is drawn at random — and they actually buy if their price was not lower.

How much people are really willing to pay and what share will accept the shelf price.
What the results look like

Five scores — each answers a brand question

Attention, emotional intensity, attitude, memory and value. The dashed line is the category average in our database.

What to do
  • importantShow the packaging and logo at the emotional peak (14–17 s): after 2 days, 31% recalled the brand unaided.
  • recommendedSoften the price delivery: skin response rises and frowning appears at the price tag.
  • hypothesisCut the ending by 3 s — attention dips there.

FAQ

What brands ask before a study

How many participants are needed?

It depends on how small a difference you need to detect. Comparing two videos usually takes 30–40 people; audience segments need 60 or more. We calculate the exact number before starting — see the sample size calculator on the lab page.

How long does a study take?

An express test takes about a week, a video study 2–3 weeks, a comprehensive study 3–5 weeks. The timeline depends mostly on recruiting participants.

How is this better than a focus group or survey?

Focus groups and surveys capture opinions formed after viewing. EEG records the reaction during viewing, second by second, with no moderator influence. The combination works best: we collect both EEG and participant answers and show where they diverge.

Why so many sensors? Isn’t EEG enough?

Each signal answers its own question: EEG — attention and memory; skin and pupil — emotional intensity; facial expressions — like or dislike; gaze — what was noticed. Any single signal can be wrong. A conclusion confirmed by two or three independent signals is more reliable, which is why every score in the report combines several.

Isn’t it uncomfortable for participants to wear all the sensors?

No. The EEG headset, two finger sensors, a breathing belt and small facial electrodes take 15–20 minutes to put on and don’t interfere with viewing. The participant sits in front of a screen, watches the materials and answers questions — the whole session lasts up to 60 minutes.

How is your score better than a regular survey?

A survey is words right after viewing. We test decisions with actions: the participant actually buys at the price they named, and 2–3 days later recalls from memory which brands and shots they remember. Plus second-by-second reactions during viewing that people can’t control.

Can a video be tested before shooting?

Yes: an animatic, storyboard or rough cut. Fixing a weak scene this way is cheaper than reshooting a finished video.

How are our data and materials protected?

Participants are recorded under codes, with no names or face video. We sign a contract and NDA with the client. Only your team has dashboard access; results are visible after we publish them.

Do you work with agencies?

Yes. Agencies get partner access: one dashboard for all client brands and reports ready to pass on to clients.
